Dr. Kathleen Delate - "Organic Agriculture in Iowa"

Kathleen Delate's first two years of college were spent at Iowa State University in Farm Operations/Agronomy, but she graduated with a B.S. in Agronomy from the University of Florida. She received an M.S. in Horticulture at Florida while serving on the Horticulture faculty as the statewide Master Gardener Extension Coordinator. She received her Ph.D. in Agricultural Ecology (Sustainable Agriculture) in 1991 from the University of California-Berkeley, and then held a post-doctoral position at the University of Hawaii in macadamia nut IPM/biological control. She later became a faculty member there, coordinating the USDA-SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) Professional Development Program for the Pacific Islands from 1994 to 1997 before returning to Iowa. Her current position as Assistant Professor at ISU is a joint position between the departments of Horticulture and Agronomy, where she is responsible for research, extension and teaching in organic agriculture. Kathleen has farmed organically in Florida, Hawaii, California and Iowa.
