L. Hunter Lovins, Esq.  

L. Hunter Lovins, Esq., is known worldwide as the co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and co-creator of the concept of Natural Capitalism. In 1982 she created RMI with Amory Lovins and proceeded to lead that organization as its CEO for Strategy for 20 years. Under her leadership, RMI grew into an internationally recognized research center, widely celebrated for its innovative thinking in energy and resource issues.
 


Upon her departure from RMI in June of 2002, Hunter joined with partners to found the Natural Capitalism Group (NCG: www.natcapgroup.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to disseminating the principles of Natural Capitalism around the world. First outlined in the book Natural Capitalism (by Hunter Lovins, Amory Lovins, and Paul Hawken), these principles demonstrate how it is possible for businesses to increase profitability and competitive advantage by behaving responsibly towards both nature and people.

Ms. Lovins has managed international non-profits, created several for-profit corporations, taught at dozens of universities, and is in great demand as a speaker and consultant. She has consulted for many corporations, including Interface, Inc.; Bank of America; Allstate; Calvert Social Investment Fund; Royal Dutch/Shell Group; and numerous utility companies. She has addressed such audiences as the U.S. Congress, The World Economic Forum at Davos, the World's Fair Energy Symposia, the Industrial Designers Society's WorlDesign, the Epiphany service at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the State of the World Forum, Bioneers, the Global Economic Forum, the World Watch State of the World Conference, and hundreds of conferences and college symposia.

Lovins has co-authored nine books and dozens of papers. For her contributions to environmental understanding, she has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Shingo Prize for Manufacturing Research, the Leadership in Business Award and being named a "Hero for the Planet" by Time Magazine in 2000.

Lovins holds BAs from Pitzer College (Political Studies and Sociology), a JD from Loyola University School of Law (Los Angeles), and several honorary doctorates. In her spare time she serves on the local fire/rescue service as an EMT, and is President of Nighthawk Horse Company. She trains polocrosse horses, competes at polocrosse, and rides rodeo.

Tad Hargrave, 27, has been a change maker since he was 19 when he founded The School Revolution, which empowers students with resources to transform their schools.

He served as Development Director for Youth for Environmental Sanity (YES!) starting in 1996. In 1997, he founded YES!'s Facilitation Trainings and in 1999 he founded Youth Jams.

Most recently, he started a consulting practice called The Leverage Crew that offers helps social entrepreneurs, locally owned and small business to attract avalanches of perfect customers with the same or - often - much less effort.

He is an accomplished magician, musician and improv comedian. He was recently featured in the book Global Uprising and was chosen as one of thirty leading young visionaries in North America by Utne Reader magazine in their September, 2002 edition.

Designs and builds educational ecosystems, teaches ecological design theory and practice, and develops curriculum and education programs for schools, universities and environmental organizations. Marc spent five years living and working in East Africa on community development and environmental programs in Kenya.
 


Marc will be hosting a 2-day workshop open to the general public on how to make a living machine (a biological water filtration system). He will be giving a presentation on the concept behind this innovative machine and the revolutionary changes it's making in the field of treating waste while building ecosystems.

John E. Ikerd Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics

As state co-coordinator of extension programs in sustainable agriculture during the 1990s, Ikerd was responsible for implementing a professional development program for extension workers and others who provided Missouri with information related to sustainable agriculture.

 


Other major research and educational programs included participatory on-farm research and demonstration programs and evaluation of impacts of sustainable agriculture on quality of life of farm families and others in rural communities.

Dr. Ikerd was project leader for a three-state, five-year program, with funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which linked sustainable agriculture and sustainable community development.

Since retiring from the University in early 2000, Ikerd serves on boards of directors and advisory counsels for several nonprofit organizations dedicated to the sustainability of American agriculture and rural communities.

Ronnie is the National Director of the Organic Consumers Association (OCA), a non-profit, public interest organization dedicated to building a healthy, safe, and sustainable system of food production and consumption in the U.S. and worldwide.
 


The OCA's primary strategy is to work on national and global campaigns that integrate public education, litigation, marketplace pressure, direct action, media work, and grassroots lobbying so as to address the issues of food safety and genetic engineering and promote sustainable and organic agriculture.

Cummins is also former coordinator of the Global Days of Action Against Genetic Engineering and editor of the electronic newsletter BioDemocracy News: News and Analysis on Genetic Engineering, Factory Farming, and Organics.
